I imagine you’ve come to this page because you are curious to find out about me. And I’m glad you did.
I hope what you see in my photo, is someone who is a great listener, wise, warm, curious and totally interested in you!
I’ve had seven careers in my life
I’ve been a secretary, recruiter and office manager. A public relations specialist, senior manager in the public service, and organization development consultant. And now, a leadership coach.
When I discovered coaching in its early days, I quickly realized it’s what I was born to do. I love it.
I love being a listening post and guide to bright, ambitious, savvy professionals who are developing themselves as leaders in their world. I love connecting with them and seeing them connect with themselves at a deeper level. I love witnessing the shifts they make in their reactions and actions, and in the joy and fulfillment they get from making changes that make a difference – for them, and everyone around them.
For the last 18 years I’ve been working one on one with amazing people. Coaching them to develop their leadership skills while watching them grow and succeed as respected leaders. From session to session I can feel them discovering what is really important and I hear the difference as they get clear on their own voice.
They are designing their work and their lives on their own terms.
Working with Me – Next Step One-on-One Coaching: For Developing Leaders™
What I do is help you get really clear on what your next step is, what you want to happen in your work and life.
Actually, this is where we start.
We establish goals. We talk about what might be getting in the way for you at this time. As your coach, I am completely focused on what your goals and aspirations are. I don’t have an agenda for you. Our coaching is about your agenda – what you want to make happen in your career and life, what might be holding you back, and the changes you will make. Our conversations do have a clear intention and desired outcome, but they are fluid and based on your needs and goals.
During our coaching calls you’ll find my job will be to ask you the right questions so you can find the answers that we both know are there but may be eluding you.
At the same time, because of my experience in organizations, I have a sense of what your work world is like. Often I’ve had experiences that will be helpful for you. When appropriate, I may, if I feel it will serve you, share information relevant to what you’re going through.
“Marcia’s background in organizational development and her significant management experience were invaluable to me as I developed my own leadership style. Her perspective and responses to challenges that arose were priceless. Marcia’s listening skills are superlative: She has the ability to hear with intuition. She also has a gift of being able to paraphrase in a way that brings clarity and facilitates the development of next steps.”
Wendy Arnott, Corporate Facilitator
And although it all sounds terribly serious (and it is – it’s your life and your career), I think you’ll find we have time for a little fun in our explorations.
Sometimes you’ll find there are other emotions that emerge on our calls and that is good. You’ll find the whole experience very rewarding.
“I feel so much better after talking to you. I am so much more clear. I am appreciating the new perspective that you helped me see. I feel like I can go forward and do what I need to do now.”
One client after a regular coaching call
Have I done any formal training? I have and continue to do to expand my skills set. I consider myself a life-long learner and am consistently taking courses and workshops. My original coach training was with the Coaches Training Institute (CTI) and I am certified by CTI as a certified professional co-active coach. I have also held the Professional Certified Coach (PCC) designation from the International Coaching Federation since 2003. I have a M.Sc in Organization Development from Pepperdine University.
I have recently completed a year long, intensive advanced coaching program with Marlena Field, creator and founder of Body Centered Coaching, and am now proud to call myself a Certified Body Centered Coach. This training has accelerated my ability to help clients get in touch with all facets of who they are – in body, mind and spirit and access the wisdom that resides there. Through this program, I have learned new, powerful and long-lasting ways to help clients find answers.
Over the years I have taken dozens of courses and specializations. I always say: the day I stop learning is the day I stop breathing.
I love to coach developing leaders: bright, articulate and successful women and men who want to tap into their own strengths, knowledge and inner truths. Who want to make powerful choices and bold decisions in their careers and lives.
My clients come from coast to coast across Canada, the United States, and internationally. They have called me from Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, London, Kingston, Ottawa, Fredericton, and Saint John. Some have also called from Nairobi, Kenya, Montreal, Moncton, Winnipeg, Boston, San Diego and other cities in the United States.
